John Pendergast grew up in Appleton, WI, where he developed a passion for soccer from a young age. After graduating from Appleton West High School, John answered the call to serve in the United States Marine Corps.
From January 2001 to 2005, John served as a fire team leader and platoon radio operator, completing three combat tours in Iraq. Honorably discharged in 2005, he was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. His time in the Marine Corps instilled in him honor, courage, and commitment—qualities he incorporates into his coaching philosophy and dedication to players' development.
John began his coaching career with the Neenah Soccer Club. Over the past seven years, he has taken on increasing levels of responsibility, coaching both girls' and boys' teams across recreational, academy, and travel levels. He was appointed Academy Master Coach and, for the last three years, served as the Assistant Director of Coaching. Additionally, John coaches through the Wisconsin USYS Olympic Development Program and serves as an Assistant Coach for the Lawrence University Men's soccer program.
John is passionate about coaching and continuing education, with plans to pursue additional coaching certifications to further enhance his skills and knowledge.
“I am honored to join the coaching staff at North Shore United. The club’s reputation extends well beyond the Milwaukee area. I’m excited to be a positive part of the players' journey in this beautiful game.”
John lives in Neenah with his wife, Erica, and their two sons.
