Matt Long


Matt started playing soccer with Cedarburg Soccer Club at age 8 and played up through the Varsity squad at Cedarburg High School. His senior year, he was named team captain and was an inaugural recipient of the Heart of a Champion Award given in memory of his former captain and teammate, Ryan Refinski.

After high school, Matt joined the military where he became an Airborne Infantrymen and a Combat Engineer. He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005-2006.

Matt began coaching at the grassroots level in 2011 and played for the NSU 1st Division/Major teams from 2014-2016. Matt currently holds a U.S. Soccer National D Coaching License and has coached boys and girls from Pre-Academy to U16 Select levels. Matt has extensive experience with Strength and Speed training and honed his technical training expertise with John Gaspar Soccer Academy in Illinois.

When he's not coaching, you can find him on the other side of the field with his wife, Safiyah, cheering on their four kids, Christine, Madison, Sawyer, and Peyton.
