The NSU U16 girls fell just short in their bid to repeat as Wisconsin state champions on Sunday, losing 1-0 to Appleton in double overtime on Sunday in Oshkosh.

The team dominated its bracket, defeating FC Milwaukee Blue and posting a 3-0 record, outscoring opponents 12-3. In the semifinals, NSU defeated Allouez 2-0 before the heartbreaking loss on Sunday.

NSU and Appleton had tied 1-all earlier this year in the Midwest Regional League, and it took more than 100 minutes to decide a winner on Sunday.

Despite the loss, the NSU U16 girls are still having a fine fall season. They are 2-1-2 in the MRL First Division Blue, with two games remaining next weekend in Barrington, Ill. The team also is scheduled to play in the Scott Gallagher Fall Classic in St. Louis in early November and the San Diego Surf College Cup later in the month.
