While NSU U16 girls finished fifth out of eight teams at the Las Vegas College Showcase March 18-20, college coaches in attendance were highly complimentary in their style of play.  Both during and after the tournament, coach Sinisa Angelovski has heard from numerous coaches who rated our girls as playing the best style of soccer seen at the tournament

The team started off against the top-ranked team from Texas South, Eclipse 95 Black.  Katie Bares started the scoring putting NSU up 1-0 in the first half after Lydia Koenig created a loose ball with an aggresive header attempt in the goal area. While NSU Girls controlled possession most of the game, Eclipse came back with 2 second half goals for a 2-1 decision.

In their second game of the day, NSU went up against a strong Sting 95 Blue, Texas North team.  Once again, NSU started strong and led at the half 2-1 behind (2) Koenig goals.  (assisted by Hannah Groth and Annie West)  However, Sting 95 came back with 2 second half goals for a 3-2 decision.

Day 2 saw NSU play Arsenal Gold of Fort Collins, Colorado on a fast synthetic surface.  Arsenal had 2 players with National Team experience and they were physically and technically the best team NSU would face in the tournament.  NSU had a 2-1 lead with just 10 minutes left on goals by Josee Stiever and Tosh Minor.  However an own goal on a corner kick late in the game earned Arsenal a 2-2 draw.

NSU finished the tournament with a win over New Mexico State Champions, AUFC 95 Fusion. Again, NSU was in control from beginning to end, earning a 2-0 triumph with goals by Angie Mann and Taylor Skorik.

According to Coach Sinisa Angelovski, the emphasis during college showcase tournaments is all about exposing the players to as many college coaches as possible.  Angelovski says, "Wins are nice, but college opportunities for all our girls is what these tournaments are all about".  As testament to this, he has had follow-up conversations with approximately 20 college coaches since the tournament.

Congratulations to this great group of girls who competed for NSU in the Las Vegas College Showcase.   Team members are Kaitlin Kuznacic, Olivia Brown, Brianna Krueger, Taylor Skorik, Josee Stiever, Tosha Minor, Katie Bares, Hannah Groth, Lydia Koenig, Alyssa Florack, Annie West, Shay Darga, Angie Mann, Maddie Tetzke, Rashida Beal, Lauren Meyer, and Lexi Gauger.

For their U17 year, the team is scheduled to play college showcase tournaments in Muscatine, St. Louis Scott Gallagher, Disney, and Las Vegas.
