Tougher opponents meant different outcomes on the second day for North Shore United teams at the US Youth Soccer Region II Championships in Des Moines, IA.

The U-15 boys fell behind early and couldn't recover in a 3-1 defeat to Chicago Magic Pre-Academy. Nicholas Garbe had the NSU goal in the 50th minute. The defeat pushed NSU into second place in the bracket; the team's final pool play game is at 4 p.m. Monday against Fort Wayne Fever West Heat Elite.

The U-18 girls fell 3-2 to Javanon Black from Kentucky. Rachel Clayton scored both goals for NSU, which is third in the four-team bracket with one game remaining, at 10 a.m. Monday vs. Michigan Football Club.

Play continues through Wednesday. The winners of each bracket advance to the national championships.
