North Shore United’s Majors team has elected to play Tuesday night’s home playoff quarterfinal against United Serbians in honor of teammate Brett Wiesner.

All of NSU’s players, parents and family members are encouraged to support the team at Port Washington State Bank Soccer Park at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. There is no admission charge.

Wiesner, a long-time NSU youth coach, died Saturday in a swimming accident at age 31. Coach David Moxom and the team considered whether it was appropriate to play the match so soon after the tragedy, but decided to forge on in his honor.

“We will play with the same work rate, focus and intensity that Brett brought to the field for every single game he played,” Moxom said. “We will dedicate our Championship to him and toast to his memory once the Cup is won in his honor.”

NSU won 15 matches, lost 3 and drew 1 in its first season in the Wisconsin Soccer Leagues, finishing second in the table. Playoff semifinals are Saturday at Brookfield Soccer Park and the championship is July 19 at MSOE.
